Mark Bailey has designed over 200 productions of theatre, opera and ballet in Britain, Europe and North America. His work has been seen in Italy, Switzerland, Belgium, Norway, Spain, Denmark, Ireland, Turkey, North America, Hong Kong and Canada. He was an Associate Artist at Theatre Clwyd in Wales for many years and has worked for many of the UK's major producing theatres including Bristol Old Vic, Theatre Royal York, Theatre Royal Plymouth, West Yorkshire Playhouse, Chichester Festival Theatre and Birmingham Rep.
His many West End credits include: Dickens Abridged, Rent, Legal Fictions, The Importance of Being Earnest (also Toronto), The Winslow Boy, Present Laughter, The Gondoliers, Rat Pack Confidential, Which Witch (costumes) and Mack and Mabel.
Recent designs include the current UK tour of Ghost, The Musical; Alice In Wonderland for Liverpool Playhouse and The Glee Club for Stockroom both directed by Kate Wasserberg; The Provoked Wife for the RSC; Cinderella and Chaplin The Tramp (Slovak National Ballet);The Outliers Season (The Other Room, Cardiff); Treasure Island (Birmingham Rep) and Travels with My Aunt (Citizens Glasgow); the UK tours of Ghost The Musical (also Moscow and Paris) and The Glenn Miller Story; All My Sons, Cyrano De Bergerac, Hamlet,The Taming of the Shrew, As You Like It (Theatr Clwyd); Intimate Apparel, The Spanish Golden Age Season, The Mother (Ustinov Studio, Theatre Royal Bath) and The Sweet Smell of Success (Arcola, London).
Mark’s designs for ballet include Cinderella (Slovak National Ballet); The Boy In the Striped Pyjamas (world premiere, Northern Ballet); Nijinsky, God of the Dance (world premiere, Slovak National Ballet); The Snow Queen, (world premiere, English National Ballet, also National Ballet of Lithuania, Vienna Staatsballet, Czech National Ballet); Melody on the Move (world premiere, English National Ballet); The Sleeping Beauty (Hong Kong Ballet); A Time There Was (Tivoli Ballet, Copenhagen); L’Arlesienne (English National Ballet School) and Varii Capricci, a celebration of Sir Peter Wright’s 80th birthday. Opera designs include Madame Butterfly (Nevill Holt /Grange Park), Carmen (Royal Opera House, Linbury Studio); Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny (Los Angeles Opera), Iolanthe (D’Oyly Carte Opera), and Ariadne Auf Naxos (Maggio Musicale Florence/Opera de Lausanne) and productions for Buxton Opera, Opera North and Almeida Opera.
